Q:

I missed 2 days of birth control pills in the second week, then took 2 on the third day and had unprotected sex a few hours later. Do I have a chance of being pregnant?

I am on my first pack ever of birth control. I took 2 pills yesterday morning and then about 4 hours later had unprotected sex. Did those pills last me for the 4 hours? Do I have a chance of being pregnant? It was only yesterday, so I still have a chance to take the plan B pill right?

Hi Georgigirl,
Yes, you always risk the chance of pregnancy when you have sex, even on birth control. Since you missed pills, you are at a higher risk for pregnancy. You can use Plan B within 72 hours of your sexual experience so this can be used at this point for a backup method. Remember that when you use emergency contraceptive, you may experience irregular periods for a few months afterwards so do not be concerned if you have irregular bleeding. Bleeding is a good sign of not being pregnant.
