last friday, i started my period, which is about 2 weeks early. i thought that i had been taking my pills regularly so i was confused on why i started early. this weeked, i had sex 3 times without a condom and he ejaculated in me all 3 times. last night (sunday night) when i took my birth control pill, i noticed that i was about to take my pill for saturday night. so sometime last week, i missed a pill and never realized it. i took 2 pills last night since i had missed that one sometime last week, which was in week two of my pills. could i get pregnant from having unprotected sex this past weekend and not knowing that i missed 1 pill a few days ahead?

Hi cheerleader0909,
Yes, bleeding is an indication of not being pregnant, especially if it's heavier. Thanks for coming back and updating us. Hope your fears are calmed now. Keep taking your pills on time, and you may want to have your partner use withdrawal or a condom in addition to avoid this concern in the future. :)

cheerleader0909 - You are asking for an impossible answer. We can't predict whether or not you will become pregnant. Please read the articles Christine provided. They have information including the following:

How much are my pills' effectiveness decreased?

It is impossible to provide an exact percentage, but the basic formula is: the more pills you miss + (plus) the more frequent intercourse you have = (equals) the greater chances of pregnancy.

so do you think i am at high risk for pregnancy since i did that this past weekend? i know that missing a pill increases the risk, but i am just curious how much at risk i am for this situation.

Hi cheerleader0909,
According to the package insert, you make up a pill as soon as you realize you've forgotten it. It's important to get back on track, use back-up protection for at least that week, and being diligent about not forgetting again. If you find you are having trouble remembering, you should always use back-up methods like condoms, spermicide, or withdrawal. You also may at that time want to call your doctor and ask if this is the best contraception for you, or ways to help you remember top take it as directed.

does making that pill up even after a few days still help?

Hi Cheerleader0909,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER.
What you experienced may have been breakthrough bleeding from missing your pill. Anytime you forget to take your pills, it does increase the risk of pregnancy. However, making up your pills as soon as you realize you have an extra one helps. Keep taking them, and try to keep on track for the rest of your pack. Start your new pack when this one runs out. If you miss your period, you can take a pregnancy test, or request one from the doctor who prescribed your pills.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
