I Need to Be Sure about Something

Hi, I have found out something and I'm going to see my oncologist soon but their is something that I really want to know about. I have found out that my DHEA is really high and out of range and that it has symptoms of hair loss, hirsutism and decreased breast size and I actually have these symptoms. I'm only 28 years old. I know a doctor and told me that high DHEA means that it is possible that I have a benign tumor near my kidney. He told me when such thing gets removed then the DHEA goes back to normal level on it's own. I'm scared of such thing being true but I'm going to see the doctor for it soon and I will know more about it. My question from here is I heard they do kidney ultrasound is it anything painful, embarrasing or a hard procedure? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Melissa

Melissa6666,

It might be possible.  But it's best to talk to your doctor about this condition and your cycles.

Best,

Daisy

Hi Melissa6666,

You will be lying down for the procedure. A clear, water-based conducting gel is applied to the skin over the abdomen. This helps with the transmission of the sound waves. A handheld probe called a transducer is then moved over the abdomen.

You may be asked to change position so that the health care provider can examine different areas. You may also be asked to hold your breath for short periods of time during the examination.

The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes.

Best,

Daisy

It should not be painful but you may be nervous or maybe a little uncomfy. Maybe have someone in the room to ease the uncomfortable feeling if any. Good luck with the ultrasound and i hope everything comes out fine ;)
