Hello everyone,
My last menstal period began On may 23rd. I missed my entire first week of pills from my new pack so I started over on June 4th. (took two that day since the dr couldn't call my refill in until then). I was expecting my period june 20th. Well I am now 5 days late. I have been having headaches, lower ab cramps which feel mild and only for short amount of times, and have been REALLY moody lately.. I don't know if I should wait this out because I missed those pills or if this could be pregnancy. The cramping with no period got me thinking. My periods always start on the Wednesday of the inactive pills and I hardly ever cramp. If I do its usually on the day I start and only on that day. Help?? I also don't know when is the perfect time to take a pregnancy test. I don't want to have to buy 5 of them and waste money. Thanks!

There is a chance for becoming pregnant any time you have unprotected sex. The chance increases during ovulation, which is generally midcycle.

You had unprotected sex the week following your last period. Most likely, you were not ovulating then. I doubt that you are pregnant.

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

It is possible that your period is late because your normal menstrual cycle was disrupted by missing one week of the active birth control pills.

Most birth control pills contain synthetic forms of two female hormones: estrogen and progestin. The hormones in the pill work by keeping a woman's ovaries from ovulating. They also thickening a woman's cervical mucus and thin the lining of the uterus.

So, by skipping one week, you pushed your cycle back by one week. Your period may start around June 27.

Having unprotected sex during the week following your last period poses a very slight risk, if any, for becoming pregnant.

If you do not get your period by July 4 or 5, then take a home pregnancy test.

Thanks! Is there still a possibility that I could be pregnant?
