Q:

My hands and arms are really veiny. What does it mean?

My hands and arms have always been very veiny, but sometimes more than others. I have always wondered:
1) What does it mean when you are very vascular?
2) Does lack of water make your veins appear more pronounced or less?

Thank you Maryann! Very helpful info. I always thought dehydration causes your veins to be more prominent. It's great to know I am hydrated and shouldn't be concerned :)

Sharing this info with a friend of mine who also has a "veiny problem!"

Guide

Hello Shana,

That is a very good question and one many people may ask themselves.

Prominent veins on the hands and arms are due to variations in a person's genetics. The number one factor is the amount of subcutaneous fat. Less fat under your skin will cause the veins on your hands to be more prominent. More toned muscles in your arms correlate to prominent veins in your arms.

Dehydration causes veins to be less prominent.

I hope this answers your questions.

Regards,
Maryann
