Q:

Nearly constant urinary tract infections?

I suffer from a nearly constant UTI (Urinary tract infection). My doctor has told me that it is probably because I have a lot of sex (with one partner) and sex changes the pH of the vagina. She gave me a bunch of things do that would hopefully stop the UTI from coming back, such as urinating right after sex and making sure everything is well lubricated. I've also taken medications, but it only seems to solve the problem for a few days.

However, IT DOES NOT GO AWAY.

Does this happen to anybody else? And if it has, how did you get rid of it? Or am I doomed to have to urinate ever five seconds for the rest of my life?

I feel urinary discomfort often and read somewhere that alka seltzer would help. Of course I thought it was ridiculous until I tried it. It actually helps me and has stopped me from getting a full blown infection that required antibiotics. I have had so many and been tested and treated until I was willing to try anything. I also must drink 64 oz of water everyday!!

I'm 48 years old. Starting in April-May of 2012, I began to wake up frequently at night to use the bathroom. The number of times I woke up gradually increased to about two to five times a night.

I'm usually very skeptical of the claims of supplement makers. I take a multivitamin, cinnamon to reduce my blood sugar and niacin to reduce my triglycerides. (Both were recommended by my doctor). After doing much research online, I suspected that my problem was due to Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)--a common condition of men 50+ yrs old. During a doctor's office visit, I asked him about taking a supplement. He was positive about trying a supplement to relieve my waking up at night to go to the bathroom.

I researched several different brands and decided to try the Dr Max Powers Prostate Supplement. Within a week and a half of starting the supplements, I was only waking once or not at all at night. I've been taking the supplements for about 4 months now and recommend them.

i have had chronic uti's since i was 16. at first it only happened once every few months weather i was sexually active or not, now its got to the point where i think it has just never gone away. ive had a uti for about a month straight and im back to the same google search looking for some sort of something to make all this pain stop. i cant have sex with my boyfriend in denmark and it really sucks because i only see him during the summers luckily for me the hospitals are free here so i can get tx with out payment! but they only keep putting me on more antibiotics and im pretty sure that by now im immune to most that are out there. ive tried supplements, cranberries, everything out there! i have never found a cure..so i just wanted you to know that i feel your pain, and if you ever find out how to stop this please post it!

I also have the same problem and have for about 6 years. I have had the scope testing, I have been on antibiotics orally, injections and IV. I have tried everything and I can't seem to prevent them. The only thing that helps me in the slightest is drinking cranberry juice everyday with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar mixed in it. I drink three 20 oz bottles a day. It doesn't keep me from getting them but it does seem to keep them from being quite so painful.

I know exactly how you feel, I have had to drop out of Uni for the year to try and give myself time to rest and trial different medications.

I was told I have "Painful Bladder Syndrome" a few days ago, and I've been given a really strong anti-depressant to help block the nerves from sending pain signals to my brain, and a patch that I have to wear all the time that releases medicine into my blood stream to help with my bladder muscles relaxing.

Well I know it's only been a day since starting the medications, but I am not feeling any different, and I have also had a sugar, preservative, acidic free diet for the last few weeks, which isn't helping either.

People just don't realise how much it affects us, if I am ever actually feeling pain free, I am constantly worried about when it's going to come back. Because I know it will. I've learnt not to get excited when I'm pain-free, because it just leads to disappointment sooner than later.

there ae lots of discussion forums between people with the same/similar problems. I know it won't fix anything, but sometimes it's nice to just know you aren't alone.

Make an appointment to see a Urologist ASAP.

I am only 16 years old, and i've been having UTI's since I was like 14. I've been on a variety of medicine and nothing ever helps. My UTI's are like day after day after day. I've been on Azo but now that isn't beginning to help, even on that i still have really bad UTI's. I am not sexually active, and i don't douche. I wipe the way your suppose too, and I am very clean. My doctor thinks that it might be that when I pee, my pee is going backwards, which causes the pain. My cousin has the same thing, and is on medicine for life. But i also have a tilted uterus due to sexual abuse when i was 7, they think that I might be going to the bathroom, and not emptying my bladder all the way and the pee is just sitting in there causing bacteria to build up. My UTI's are like once a week. Their like an everyday basis for me which is really bad, because I can't sit in school with these things.. i get very short tempered due to the pain, and the feeling of having to pee and i can't always keep running to go to the bathroom. I don't know what to do. I can't go out and stay at my friends house because i get these, and I can't do my sports due to this. I have never had sex. So i don't understand, all i know is that this is depressing me to the point i rather die then live with these. Their so painful, and I'm up every night because of them and I can't fall asleep. I'm deadly tired if i do go to school, but most of the time i miss it. I'm a very good student, and this isn't reflecting good on my grades. Please help. ):

Aren't* once a week I meant.

Back again,
I have now been on countless more antibiotics, have had a cystoscopy, and diagnosed with "Post Cystitis Syndrome" and sent home with very weak antibiotics for use only for 3 days at a time when I feel a flare-up.
Well since then I have used all the antibiotics on an infection a few weeks back, and ended up in hospital again last week. The doctor prescribed me penicillin and said "now I'm giving you Penicillin, even though that doesn't work!".
It was the worst pain I have ever felt and would not wish it upon anyone.
Now not even antibiotics help and all my urinalysis come back negative (even when not on antibiotics).
I'm starting to think it could be Urethritis, as the pain is only in the actual urethra. No where else.
Could it even be stress/psychological or even hormonal?

Help me!! :-(
