Periods messed up- what could be going on?

After having unprotected sex during my fertile times about a week after I started my period- although 2 days earlier than anticipated , this wasn't anything unusual for my period to come early. My husband and I were trying to conceive ,but as soon as my period started I of course knew I wasn't. We already have one child, and I am aware of implantation bleeding- this wasn't. Or at least I don't think. It was heavier than implantation bleeding , yet lighter than my usual heavy period, and it was also much shorter. I am normally a 7 day gal, my period was wrapped up in about 4-5 days. Again I chalked it up to being just an odd period. However during the whole time I was on my cycle I was sick to my stomach, something that's NEVER happened before. Really as soon as my period stopped , my symptoms subsided. Now I haven't had sex since my last period, and was expecting my period on the 19th of this month, yes only yesterday- but my period is NEVER late, if anything it's always early, And I also took numerous pregnancy test, just because my body seemed to be telling me to. This isn't all in my head, but I am getting very confused as to what could be going on. This whole month I have been under the impression that since I had my period last month there was NO way I could be pregnant, but I've had terrible hip and back pain, headaches (never get them), gained weight- but my eating habits haven't been the best, and I am very tired, however I am stay at home mom of a toddler so... I am sure my period will be here soon, as I have various symptoms of PMS, is it possible to have symptoms of PMS and not get your period , AND not be pregnant. I am sooo confused right now.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer. You will have to wait at least a week of a missed period to try a pregnancy test again. I think you may be too early to be certain if you are pregnant or not. Just wait another week and see if your period either comes or if not, take another pregnancy test.

Sometimes there is no clear reason why we sometimes miss a period and not be pregnant. It just happens. So be patient and good luck.
