Q:

Pregnancy signs or not?

Hi, I normally get regular periods (usually 26 days) that only vary depending on how much exercise I do. My period was due last Tuesday (28th July, so it's a week and a day late) but there has been nothing aside from occasional discharge. I'm not bloated, my breasts are slightly swollen (I think), but for the most part not tender or tingly, I keep feeling like I'm on my period, i.e. I feel quite heavy around my lower abdomen, and have very little back pain.I keep looking around online for signs of a pregnancy, but I don't seem to really fit into any of them. I had a really awful headache and was shaky for a day without nausea. I don't really want to take a test until next week when it reaches 2 weeks since the possible conception date, and I'm really scared about a false negative. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Could I be pregnant, or is my period just late? Could it be some other health concern? Thanks in advance

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to our community with your concern about a late period.

If you have had unprotected intercourse since your last period, pregnancy is possibly the reason you have not gotten your period.

It is apparent that this is stressing you out. Stress can also cause a delay in the start of your period.

The choice to wait is yours to make. To avoid a false result, purchase a name brand product and check the expiration date.Choose an early response test. Read and follow the directions carefully. Most importantly, test as soon as you wake up and use the first urine of the day. It is concentrated and will give you the most accurate result.

Regards,
Maryann

Thank you for your response, Maryann!

We did use protection. And yes, I am very stressed out!

I keep reading about false negatives, and that just makes me more paranoid and stressed.

Thanks again for your help xx
