Q:

Pregnant or just paranoid? (too early to tell?)

I was on birth control pills but I had a missed pill last month. I am scheduled to go to the OBGYN in a month for a annual screening. I am not taking the pill this month because I ran out before I could get an appointment. I last had sex on June 29th. My period was a little late then (supposed to have started the 29th or 30th but started on the 1st). So according to the 28 day cycle, I'm due to start tomorrow 26th - 28th of July.

I'm feeling mildly nauseated today. A week or so ago I noticed one morning there was some light spotting that was brownish in color and for a few days there I felt kind of crampy. I'm wondering if I may be pregnant or if these symptoms might just be my body adjusting to a cycle without the pill.

I took a First Alert HPT today and it was negative. Would it be too early to tell?

Dear Rosa,

Thank you so much for your reply. It has relieved my stress. I am married but we do not plan to have kids. Thanks for posting the articles too!

This morning, I can feel the beginning PMS cramps and I don't feel nauseated.

Dear Nola,

Thanks for your post. I just wanted to point out that you may not be on a 28 day cycle if your period started on the 1st as opposed to the 29th. Many women are inclined to believe that 28-day cycles are set in stone for all women and that is not the case. The best way to figure out what cycle you are on is by logging your period dates for at least 3 months and going from there.

Have you had unprotected sex after the 29th of June? If you did not, a pregnancy test would already detect the hcg hormone.

The cramping can be attributed to PMS if your period is around the corner. Also, the 10.5 mile bike rides may also contribute to the spotting, remember that heavy exercise when your body is not used to it may cause you to spot a bit.

Give it some time, you're period may just be around the corner.

Also forgot to mention that I just this month started an exercise routine consisting of riding my bike 10.5 miles every weekday morning, which I thought might have contributed to the spotting.
