Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER. The two common types of IUD in the United States, ParaGard and Mirena, are about 99.4 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. While this means that less than one out of every 100 women will become pregnant while using an IUD, there is still a slight risk.

While uncommon, an IUD can become dislodged from the uterus without you realizing it. If the IUD comes out of place, you are at risk of becoming pregnant.

Also, Fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis and many other conditions can also cause changes on your cycles. It's important you let your OBGYN know about these changes.

Best,

Daisy
