I noticed a small but painful kinda black/brown what I think is a hole or gash in my gum between two teeth that fairly small. I can't get to the dentist and am worried. Will it go away on it's own or do I need to do something? It's been going on for a couple of days. Please help!!

Dear Anonymous,

I'm sorry you're experiencing pain in your gums due to this cavity. Unfortunately, you have to see a Dentist soon before this gets any worse. What you can do is contact the public health clinic in your area and see if they can refer you to a low cost Dentist. This could be a sign of Gingivitis or Periodontal disease but you must have it checked out otherwise the pain and symptoms will only get worse and not better. Here's some more information on Gingivitis:

Best of luck,
