Stressed or Pregnant...

I'm 17 almost 18 and recently had unprotected, "Pull-out method", sex on July 6th. My period was due sometime last week, (the 15th, 16th, 17thish). It did not come. I have been stressing ever since, checking for my period to start every time I go to the bathroom, thinking about being pregnant and what I would do if I was constantly (obviously I am not ready to be pregnant). I have took three pregnancy tests that all came back negative on the 20th, the 22nd, and the 24th. Yesterday, I broke down and told a trusted family member about my situation and she was very supportive, we went and got another pack of pregnancy tests and I'm going to take another in a week or so if my period does not come. Is it likely that I am pregnant if all three tests came back negative or could it be too soon to tell?

Now that you mention it, "crash dieting" can actually cause a missed period. You are likely to attribute it to that if your next pregnancy test comes out negative.

I do not know the exact date of my last period unfortunately. I did "crash diet" and start working out (a lot more than I usually did) due to a vacation (stupid, I know) in June from the 21st until around July 2nd and then I went back to a regular healthier diet. I'm wondering if this might have had caused me to just completely miss my period this month or if I'm just desperately searching for reasons I could not be pregnant. I guess time will tell when I take another test next week.

Hi Jadealamode, Thank your for writing.

I am very sorry that you are so stressed out about the possibility of being pregnant. Do you know the exact date of your last period?

Because you are 17 years old, I would venture to say that your period is still irregular (many teenagers have normal months, then there are months when their period comes later or sometimes sooner, sometimes your period will skip a month which may very well be the case). If you have never suffered from irregular periods and you are 100% positive that your period was due on the 15th, then you may want to see a physician to perform a blood test and let you know if you are pregnant or not.

I do have to tell you that if you are performing the urine test correctly, they are highly accurate and can detect the hcg hormone sometimes up to a week before your missed period.

Wait it out a bit, and try not to stress anymore-- It isn't going to make things better is it? Since you have already purchased another pregnancy test, wait another week and test again.

For what it's worth, if your tests and dates are correct, I don't think you are pregnant but there are certainly no guarantees. Please keep us posted.
