Hi, I have a kind of problem which I'm trying to solve and not every doctor of mine are understanding the issue and my GI doctor understands what I'm saying but to my doctor it sounds weird to say this but weird and strange issues are rare to and I don't know what to do exactly. I have pain deep in my stomach muscle and when I press down my stomach I have such severe horrible pain. From deep in my muscle of my stomach I have major nausea and no appetite and I have major pain. Every once in awhile I feel warmth in my stomach from pain and I don't know what to do like this. I don't know which doctor to say this to solve this issue since it's mostly from the muscle. I feel horrible like this and I want to know what do you think I can do exactly and which doctor is best to say this to? I really appreciate your response right away.

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Melissa - It's perfectly normal to be scared of most medical procedures. It's important to let your doctors, and anesthesiologist if one is involved, know that you are scared and would appreciate their help in making you as comfortable as possible during the procedures.

In terms of which type of biopsy to have, my concern would be which one is going to give the best information needed to diagnos and treat your concern. It does no good to have the "easier" one if that one isn't the one that's going to help you the most. So, personally, that's where I would put my focus.

I don't know why you get that pounding feeling, or why eating carbs seems to help. I do know that hyperthyroidism OR the release of too much thyroid hormone can cause your heart rate and metabolism to speed up, making a person's heart pound and causing them to feel jittery and unable to relax. So definitely mention what you're experiencing to your endocrinologist, as you may need a medication adjustment or other adjustments to feel closer to "normal" again.

Take care, and I hope your procedure goes well.

Thanks for letting me know. Just one more question to be sure of something I heard synthroid and armour thyroid medications help and do you know if these come by prescriptions?
Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Melissa and thanks for bringing your question to EmpowHER.

For the symptoms that you have been experiencing - the stomach pain and nausea - the type of doctor you would want to see is a gastroenterologist.

The physicians focus on health issues impacting the gastrointestinal tract and liver. That includes understanding the normal functions and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver.

Don't worry about the words you use to describe what you're experiencing - the doctor will know what you mean and will likely have additional questions for you to help you explain it further.

While your self diagnosis may indicate that you have a problem with the stomach muscle, it's possible that there's more going on. You really need to see a professional to get the right diagnosis, which may involved some tests.

Will you do so right away and let us know what you learn and how you're doing?

Best,

Pat

Hi thanks for your reply. Today i actually went to the emergency room because of how I'm feeling and i was told that i should have muscle biopsy of my stomach. I was told EMG can help to. I was wondering what you think of such thing? i do know i have nausea from deep down my stomach and no appetite. Saying all this to my neurologist does it sound right to you? Please let me know what you think?
Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Melissa -

Electromyography (EMG) is a test that checks the health of the muscles and the nerves that control the muscles. EMG is most often used when people have symptoms of weakness, and examination shows impaired muscle strength. It can help to tell the difference between muscle weakness caused by injury of a nerve attached to a muscle and weakness due to neurologic disorders.

You will have to make your own decision as to whether this would be the right test for you. In any case, you should see a health care provider soon so you can get more answers.

Regards,

Pat

Thanks for your reply. I was told I should have endoscopy done first and depends on the results then I would I have to go from there to see what's going on and depend if my issue is still neurological related I should speak to my neurologist. So right now I know I'm on the right track.
Thanks,
Melissa

Thanks. Right now I do know this Thursday I'm scheduled for endoscopy and I don't know why I'm scared.
I have two other questions to ask you if you don't mind. If in case I'm supposed to have biopsy of my stomach muscle and for such thing I heard it's a really painful procedure though and I thought if a person has biopsy only from the skin of the stomach would a person get the same results as a biopsy of the stomach muscle?
My other question is I'm a very hypothyroid person and next month I'm going to see my endocrinologist for this matter and some nights when I go to sleep from above my chest I get a pounding feeling and few minutes later I fall asleep. I never understand what's the meaning of this and I do know that some nights if get a pounding feeling I know it's because I'm hungry. Usually I do eat a full meal at dinner time and before I go to sleep I always make sure I eat something that has carb such as bread, cookie, cake, etc. until I actually sleep comfortably. I want to such pounding feeling do you think it's associated with being hungry even though I ate a full meal or you think it's thyroid related? I do know I have very high metabolism.
Please let me know about these soon.
Thanks,
Melissa
