Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

Great to hear the positive results. Posters on this board seem very satisfied with the laser removal of a venous lake. I opted for surgery removal by a plastic surgeon and regretted it immediately. It's been 6 months since surgery and I'm just now seeing final results. I highly recommend laser removal versus plastic surgery.

I had an appointment with my dermatologist on Friday, January 10th. She injected beneath my lip to numb it and then did two laser bursts. No pain, just a little pin prick feeling. My lower lip was a bit pal and swollen, but no pain. I have been keeping my lip moist with Aquaphor ointment and it is reduced in size, but not gone as yet. I look each day to see an improvement and am not sure if this procedure has done the trick as yet. I am very hopeful as I am very self conscious about the venous lake which I have had for several years.

I did just post a comment (two actually as I did not think the first one took). As I noted, I am just thrilled with the results.

It sounds like your laser treatment was painless enough. Keep us posted on your results. It really helps to get feedback so others know what to expect whether its laser versus surgical treatment.

I'm following up on my earlier post several weeks ago on the venous lake surgery by a plastic surgeon. It's now 11 weeks after surgery and my lip is looking better but still has a small pink bump where the anchor stitch is located. I was told it's a dissolvable stitch but evidently it takes several months to dissolve. Again I recommend trying laser surgery with a plastic surgeon as a last resort. Had I known it was so intrusive I would have tried a laser dermatologist first. If anyone online has experience using a plastic surgeon to remove a venous lake I would like to hear their feedback.

I have done the laser treatment for my venous lake...It's been 3 days and i don't like the results. It is bigger than it was, and looks like purple pimple! The doctor says it will be worse before it will get better (it takes approximately 3-4 weeks to heal completely). I am super anxious about it...can't go out anywhere :((((
The laser they used was 1060 pusle laser machine. It was painful procedure but took 5 mintues.
I hope it gets better soon!!!

How has your venous lake laser treatment healed? It's been a while since you posted, are you pleased with the results?

That's what happened to me with the 1064 laser. It improved after a few days and then almost disappeared after 2-3 weeks. By week 4, it came back, bigger and it was bulging. I looked into a Diode Laser (Varilite) and it worked on the first try. I went to an Oral maxillofacial surgeon who is extremely experienced with Venous lakes. The diode laser actually 'burns' it off and it goes deep. He kept 'burning' it off until it formed a white/grey scab. After 2 weeks, the scab fell off. My before/after is featured on this page as well as many others: http://www.lovethatface.com/cosmetic-facial-surgery-richmond-va/skin-and-wrinkle-related/laser-resurfacing/facial-spider-veins/

I hope yours disappears altogether but if not, maybe this could be an option.

Responding to MY post from 6 years ago.
It came back! For the last 2 years, I've watched it slowly return. It's back and looks like it's spreading under the lip and behind the leftover scar tissue (white spot) from original procedure. My lip looks swollen.
Having a hard time believing Castor Oil will work but giving it a try. I also read that Helichrysum oil works too. I'm worried if I have another laser procedure, in another 5 years half my lip will be covered in a giant venous lake. I can't believe this is so difficult and why does it return?
