What are some good options to heal a midline insicion hernia?

I found out last week that I have a midline hernia due to a c section 8 years ago, My gyno sent me to see a general surgeron, who in my opinion basically just fat shamed me and that's it. He didn't even look at the hernia I have just asked me a few questions and said I want to send you to a baratic surgeon, but he doesn't want to fix the hernia because he said it will come back in 10 years. I am a bit over weight but not enough to warrant gastric bypass, plus I don't want bypass surgery. I didn't go to this general surgeon for this I went for the hernia. The surgeon told me the hernia will get bigger and not to limit myself in anyway even though my gyno said no lifting or yardwork. The surgeon told me come back to the er if I have trouble going to the bathroom or start vomiting. So it sounds to me that the surgeon is refusing to do anything until it becomes a huge emergency surgery and passing it off on someone else until it does. I am very upset at all of this as I don't want to have to have a huge emergency surgery later on. My husband suggested control top panty hose to help control the hernia for now, as binders are expensive and won't really help because they are worn higher up that where my hernia is. I don't think I can get my gyno to send a second referral to a different surgeon and my insurance won't pay for me to just go to a surgeon on my own. I am looking for options to at least do what I can to prevent the hernia from getting any larger without taking over my life and making me unable to do anything at all. I am more terrified after seeing the surgeon than I was before seeing him. I thought I was going to have a hernia surgery which scared me but now the thought that they are just going to wait until I have to go to the er and then require a major surgery terrifies me more. Any suggestions on what I can do to stop the hernia growth at home are greatly appricated, Yes I know weight loss of course will help and I am working on that

For the benefit of our readers, a ventral hernia is a bulge of tissues through an opening of weakness within your abdominal wall muscles. It can occur at any location on your abdominal wall. Many are called incisional hernias because they form at the healed site of past surgical incisions. Ventral hernias require surgical correction. If left untreated, they continue to grow slowly until they are able to cause serious complications.

Yes, losing weight will improve your situation. I would ask your GYN to recommend another surgeon. The second doctor may or may not agree with the first one. But a 2nd opinion never hurts and many insurance companies will allow this. There is no home treatment per say, but your GYN was correct in that you should not do anything requiring heavy lifting.
