I am 63. Diabetes is rampant in my family-Mother had diabetes and died of pancreatic cancer at 65, aunts, uncles, grandparents. I periodically get tested for diabetes and the tests are always normal. Yet, I have chronic symptoms since I turned 48 or so that some say indicate diabetes and others say simply menopause: hot flashes, sweats, heart palps, waves of nausea, bloat, Sometimes i get all of these symptoms at the same time. They come in waves and last a minute or so each episode. As soon as I awake in the morning I get a wave of nausea followed by the other symptoms. I've been tested for thyroidisms and normal. Tested for adrenal failure, normal. They seem to occur the most following a high carb meal or a sweet snack which makes me think diabetes. If I can manage to stay away from the carbs and sugar they don't happen during the day, but still over night. I've complained to doctors about these symptoms for years and they just draw blanks.

Hi Anon,
Welcome to EmpowHER and thanks for your question. Sorry to hear how you feel. Seems like your symptoms are from both your diabetes and menopause.
October 30, 2011 - 6:40amSome of the Diabetes symptoms are
Excessive thirst and appetite
Increased urination (sometimes as often as every hour)
Unusual weight loss or gain
Fatigue
Nausea, perhaps vomiting
Blurred vision
In women, frequent vaginal infections
In men and women, yeast infections
Dry mouth
Slow-healing sores or cuts
Itching skin, especially in the groin or vaginal area
But Menopause can also be part of your hot flashes symptoms. It's important you see a doctor. If it's Menopause they can start you on HRT's or if you chose to not take Homonal therapy. They can guide you into Natural remedies.
