Hi,
Redness, soreness and swelling are signs of inflammation. I don't know what you mean by nail folds. Did you mean cuticles? You may have paronychia is a skin infection that occurs around the nails. It is usually caused by injury to the area -- for example, from biting off or picking a hangnail or from trimming or pushing back the cuticle.
