Q:

What else can I do to lose weight?

I am about to be 50. I drink water and no-calorie drinks (diet soda, unsweetened tea, stevia sweetened coffee and tea, etc.) I rarely eat sweets, I eat fruits and veggies, avoid white stuff (bread, pasta, rice, sugar) and I don't eat after 6pm and I still cannot lose weight. I am 5'4" and weigh 193 to 196 pounds. I'm frustrated. Even when I have been more regular about exercise, I still do not lose weight. What more can I do?

Hi Rhonda,

It seems like for the most part you are doing everything right-- the only thing I would change is your cut off time, unless you're in bed by 8pm-- there's no reason why you shouldn't eat anything after 6pm. Even a snack is better than nothing-- keep in mind that you go all night without eating anything and you need to keep your metabolism up.

Have you been to the doctor to check your thyroid levels and other blood work that may help determine why you aren't losing any weight? As we age, losing weight becomes harder and harder but it shouldn't be impossible if you are dieting and exercising. If you need to concentrate on one thing, concentrate on the diet...diet is 80% of your outcome.

Wishing you the best,

Rosa
