Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question.
If you are asking about yourself, you must speak with your physician. Your physician knows you, why you are receiving, the contents and dose, as well as your targeted blood glucose range.
TPN is an intravenous nutrition support therapy. It is used to prevent malnutrition if you cannot use your gastrointestinal tract for the digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients. It contains amino acids, dextrose, lipids, vitamins and minerals.
Dextrose is the carbohydrate source, and when it is continuously infused into the bloodstream blood glucose levels can rise, resulting in hyperglycemia.
