Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

End stage emphysema, along with COPD, is usually the final stage of severe lung disease. It can be caused by smoking (most often the case) as well as exposure to dangerous chemicals or other environmental factors.

While there is no time given in terms of life expectancy, these stages are considered the most serious and the ones most likely to be terminal.

The patient's lung specialist can help them further.

Best,
Susan
