Q:

What's behind cramps and brown discharge two weeks before the due period?

I've had a copper IUD for the last year and a half, and so far it's worked like a charm with no late periods or excessive pain. This time I've started having light cramps and brown spotting (pretty light) two weeks after my period. This has continued up until today (i.e. another two weeks). My period is due in a couple of days. I've been pregnant before and the first sign was really sore breasts, but this time that symptom is completely absent. I feel absolutely no morning sickness. Thank you!

Hi Anon,

Brown spotting two weeks before your period is normal. When the blood is brown it means it's old so this could just be that you may have had some old pooled blood that is now being released. If you don't develop any other symptoms, then this is likely the issue. Keep us posted and let me know when you do get your period!

Best Wishes,

Rosa

Hi Rosa,

Thank you for your quick reply. I was worried that it was a symptom (although a weird one) of pregnancy. Still waiting for my normal period... fingers crossed :-)

Thanks again :-)
