When will it be safe to have sex again?

I had unprotected sex approximately 6 days before I missed my 3rd last active pill before the sugar pills. When I realised it was more than 24 hours so I didn't take two I just continued on with my pack, now that I am on the sugar pills my period is very light with a lot of brown discharge at the start. could I be pregnant? Will I be protected when I start back on the active pills? Or do I have to wait until I've taken another 7 active pills.

Hi Anonymous,

The best practice for missed pills is to always wait the 7 days of your active pills so I would definitely wait until you finish the first week of your new pack. If you are bleeding, I don't think you are pregnant and since you were on your last pill, it would be highly unlikely that you were ovulating at the time of your sexual encounter so don't be too concerned about pregnancy. If you continue to be concerned, take a test for a piece of mind. I hope this helps.
