Hi, I would like to know if you want to see someone as a therapist a person to talk to regarding the issues you have which doctor would be the right person to see would it be a psychologist or psychiatrist? I can't find anyone with the word therapist and I heard it should be either psychologist or psychiatrist. I'm not sure which is right. Which one do you think is right? Please let me know soon.
Thank You,
Melissa

Melissa,
It might be best to see a psychologist and he will be able to determine if he can help or if your condition needs further help from a psychiatrist.

Hi Melissa6666,
A psychologist primarily aids the depressed patient through counseling and psychotherapy. He may hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and be called "doctor," but is not a medical doctor (M.D.).
A psychiatrist, on the other hand, is a medical doctor, and while he may also perform psychotherapy, he can additionally prescribe medications and perform medical procedures such as electroconvulsive therapy or transcranial magnetic stimulation.
Best,
Daisy
