Why is my 90 year old mother suffering from hot ears at night?

I have checked her blood pressure when she feels her ears hot and it is no different than normal. What could be the reason?

Hello. Thank you for posting.

Flushing and blushing are common causes of red, warm ears.  Typically, flushing occurs because of an intense emotional reaction, such as anger or embarrassment. Flushing can also develop because of a rapid change in temperature, alcohol use, and hormonal changes. It's likely nothing to worry about. However, if this something new or is disturbing her sleep, speak to her doctor.

Hi Helena, thanks for your response. I tried calling her doctor and she never called back.
None of the reasons you stated in your answer are the causes. It only happens at night when she goes to bed. Its strange. Don't think it's hormonal. Could be Thyroid. But unlikely. She has not changed her meds, and like I said, her blood pressure is the same. Any other ideas? It does bother her quite a bit.

I would call her doctor again and/or make an appointment. Whatever is causing it, it's not obvious so should be looked into if it's bothering her
