I have been on the combination pill, Junel FE for over a year now. I'm usually, always on time taking my pill at 11:30 every night. Twice, this month in week 1 and week 2 I took my pill 2-4 hours late because I had fallen asleep before my alarm went off to take my pill. I am now on day 4 of inactive pills and my period is still not here. I have taken a pregnancy test last Saturday, and this morning, and both were negative. I understand taking a pill late may decrease effectiveness. But, what are my chances since I have been testing negative?

Hi Anon,
Thank you for reaching out to EmpowHER with your question!
Yes, that is true that it is best to take your birth control pill at the same time each day for it to be most effective. However, since you have still been taking your pill each day and not hours and hours late, I would say you are not pregnant. That is good you took a pregnancy test just in case. Since they both read negative, I would trust that. It is possible your period is slightly late since you took your birth control a few hours late the past few days.
From now on, I would just continue taking your pill at the normal time, but if you take it late, take it as soon as you remember. Sometimes it helps to set an alarm on your phone as a reminder. I hope this has helped! Please let me know if you have other questions.
Best, Erin
