I promised myself that I would write a post if plan B worked. I too was one of those girls obsessively reading things on websites like these. I was SO scared I was pregnant and was trying to ease my worries. But don't worry, honestly. Plan b works! It is a crazy drug, but it works!
A bit about my story. I had semi unprotected sex on May 10th. We were stupid and didn't use a condom for the first minute or so. So since I was not protected any other way, and I was ovulating (which is realized afterwards), I decided to be smart and take plan b as a precaution.
I took the pill about 37 hours later on May 12th. I had been warned about the crazy side effects and man were they weird! The first two days I felt nothing so I was worried it han't worked. The between day 2.5-5 I had the early side effects of tiredness, a tiny bit of queasiness, very gassy, immense loss of appetite, but more of all just ridiculously sore breasts. Like it hurt to walk or even wear an unpadded bra. Ouchie! Day 6-8 most of those symptoms had gone away (still felt a little "off" and was still not hungry) and I got the slightest amount of spotting. It was really just a light brown discharge. It was so little all I needed was a thin panty liner. That happened for about 1.5 days. I got worried because this was the same time "implantation spotting" should have happened. Day 8-10 had literally no side effects at all except for loss of appetite and I was freaking out. I wanted to feel something to know it had worked! Finally day 11-15 I had cramping. The first 2 days felt like period cramping and I was so relieved. Then the last 3 days it was a new type of cramping I had never experienced before. It is hard to explain but it was lower down, more centered on my ovaries and lower abdomen. Everything felt extremely bloated and my lower area felt "hard and firm" which was weird. I was so gassy as well. I couldn't even eat half a sandwich without being super full. It almost constantly felt as one does when they have stuffed themselves with so much food that they don't even have much room to breathe. I didn't like this. It worried me and made me think it was "implantation cramping". I was due to get my period in a day or two at this point and literally was just counting the hours away hoping to get it.
I used the washroom today (May 26) and sure enough, red blood was present. I actually shed a little tear of relief. This is exactly when my period was expected (a day or two early, but I'm usually a few days irregular). This period is much, much lighter than my usual ones and it seems to have a lot of brown blood (old blood) but this apparently is normal! Just to be 100% sure, I took a pregnancy test today and it was indeed negative. Not a faint second line in sight! I still feel a few sharp pains in my abdomen, but I do feel the bloating starting to reduce a bit. Slow and steady.
This drug can be scary and I was worried it might not have worked if I was ovulating. There aren't too many stories out there about taking it after the recommended 24hr period WHILE ovulating. So, I thought this might ease some fears. During this whole time I had taken 4 tests to reduce my fears and while it helped the only thing that helped me was reading "success" stories like these while I waited.
Overall this drug completely messed up my body's natural cycle and I still feel gross from it. I also slightly feel like a beached whale I'm so bloated still. However, it did what it needed to do! I'm not going to say not worry because that is just not helpful :) but honestly, just try to have faith and focus on other things. I wasted the last 2.5 weeks of my life just sitting around being quiet in my own world of worry. Not worth it!
I wish all of you the best of luck!!! Xxxx
