Hyland’s homeopathic teething tablets have been recalled voluntarily by the company. The homeopathic tablets contain very diluted forms of Calcarea Phosphorica, chamomilla, coffea cruda and belladonna. These are all plants that do not usually cause side-effects in their diluted form.

The United States Food and Drug Administration had received some reports of children suffering from a dry mouth, nausea and drowsiness after taking the product so they are currently investigating whether the belladonna in the teething tablets is at the correct concentration. The symptoms have not yet been proven to be linked to the teething tablets.

Over-dosage of homeopathy is extremely unlikely as during manufacturer it is watered down so much that only the essence of the plant remains. It is because of this that homeopathy is suitable for use in pregnancy and for newborn babies.

Hyland’s estimates that children would have to take 1,025 tablets before they experienced a dry mouth. However, as a precaution they are re-designing their bottles to include a child-resistant cap before they re-release the product onto the market.

If you have some Hyland’s homeopathic teething tablets and you are concerned, you can phone Hyland’s at: 877-496-5044.

If your baby is suffering from teething pain, alternative homeopathic remedies are available, such as homeopathic teething gel. You can also give cooled chamomile tea in a bottle or on a teaspoon for the relief of pain.

Letting your baby chew on a hard rattle can ease the discomfort of sore gums.
