Diabetes is the number one cause for kidney failure. Which used to be a sure way of ending up on an ACE inhibitor, a high blood pressure medication. But now there is another -- a better -- way.

Researchers at the University of Hong Kong report that diabetics who took a supplement of omega-3 oil daily for 12 weeks had a big drop in their creatinine levels.

"Creatinine is a waste product generated by your muscles, and your kidneys are supposed to filter out most of it. If your creatinine level is normal, it means your kidneys are doing their job. If it's too high, however, it means your kidneys aren't keeping pace."

Other research in the past has indicated that kidney transplant patients who took omega-3 oil had stronger kidneys and less organ rejection than patients who didn't take the oil. So if you're diabetic, and even if your kidneys are just fine at present, introduce yourself to omega-3 oil and keep them that way.
