Diabetes will touch on just about every part of the diabetic. As someone who is hypoglycemic and having a best friend with diabetes, I can personally understand the day to day battles with everything that can go wrong with the disease. Careful control is important in every other thing that can go wrong (feet and nerve problems, eye problems, heart and kidney problems).

One thing that is paramount to be done is to get regular eye exams, as diabetes can really mess up vision. It is important to get a yearly eye exam, whether you believe that you are still seeing the same or not. Diabetic eye problems come on slowly but severely.

There are some signs of diabetic eye disease; these include trouble reading normal text, blurry vision, dark spots in the line of vision, flashing lights in line of vision, or any rings being seen around lights. Any of these will need to have a dilated eye exam to check for problems.

Don’t be a statistic. Make sure that you keep your blood glucose level as close to normal as you can so that your eyes stay strong and healthy. Be proactive and care for your diabetes. Test your blood sugar before and after every meal, before bed, and take a fasting blood level first thing in the morning.
