The fireworks have settled and the BBQ grub has been eaten. If you’re like me, you drank a bit too much, ate a bit too much, and celebrated the holiday weekend in style (while simultaneously falling off the healthy train). Forgive yourself, move on, and follow these five steps to detox from the holiday weekend:

1. Toss the Leftovers
You know that seven layer dip that’s still hiding in the fridge? Get rid of it. The potato salad and American flag cupcakes too. As willful as your will power may be, you can only be so strong when something is lurking in your fridge. If it breaks your heart to toss food in the trash, make a lunch box, take it with you next time you run errands, and give it to a homeless person.

2. Load Up on Fruits and Veggies
Keep your digestion moving by loading up on fiber-packed fruits and veggies. Even two days of bingeing can increase your overall appetite. Reign in your hunger by cutting down on salty and sugary food and loading up on all the stuff that’s good for you.

3. Exercise
Just because you threw in the towel for a few days, don’t let your entire week be ruined. Sweat out those extra calories at the gym and kick your butt a bit harder than normal to recover from a weekend of partying.

4. Drink Lots of Water
If you wanna continue bingeing, binge on some cool, refreshing, and calorie-free H20. Water flushes out all the excess junk in your system and helps to detox you from a weekend bender. Sugar, booze, and salt are extremely dehydrating so curb your appetite and bring your body back to health by filling up on water.

5. Get Over It
Don’t beat yourself up too hard. Holidays are a time to let go and celebrate. Just don’t allow your bad weekend turn into a bad week or month.
