Dr. Joseph Hibbeln sees omega-3 fatty acids as being vitally important to the body, particularly for the immune system and cardiovascular system. Since the body can't make these fatty acids, it is imperative for good health that people include them in their diets. He discusses the different types of omega-3s that are available, and advocates the fish over the flax oil.

Dr. Hibbeln emphasizes that omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids must be in the right ratio for proper health in our brains and immune systems. Most of us get an overabundance of omega-6 and not enough omega-3. Too much omega-6 will promote inflammation.
