Drinking coffee does contain caffeine, which works as a stimulant (for increased energy) and appetite suppressant. But it also is a diuretic, so it can dehydrate you.

Another thing to consider if you are trying to lose weight--black coffee or with just a touch of skim milk is the best way to drink it, so even if you like your tall mochas skinny, it may not be helping in your weight loss goals. Studies have suggested that artificial sweeteners may make you crave food, causing you to eat more.

Coffee also can cause problems for your health through increased blood pressure, anxiety, sleeplessness, and by leaching calcium from your bones. As usual, in the fight against your expanding midsection and bottom, moderation is key. Portion control, exercise, and eating healthy are the best ways to reach your goals. So when it comes to drinking healthy, you may want to opt for water.
