Apparently there really is a cosmetic remedy for everything. This year Allergan, Inc., got the go-ahead from the FDA to launch “Latisse”, a spin-off of the glaucoma drug Lumigan. The prescription medication promotes longer, thicker, darker eyelashes.
The eyelash-boosting power of the drug was discovered when it presented as a side effect in patients using Lumigan eye drops. It didn’t take long before Allergen parlayed the development into a lucrative cosmetic procedure/material that’s now offered by numerous physicians.
Regular use of the drug can cause a darkening of eyelid skin and an increase of pigmentation of the iris. Over a period of months or years brown eyes can become browner.
The idea has been a boon for chemo patients who have lost their eyelashes during treatment.
