Avoiding the Workout Blues

It is important to recharge and avoid burning out in a workout routine and for those of you who did not stick to your goal, Spring Training Goals and Resolutions are just as effective.

There is still time to get ready for summer as the Ides of March are upon us, with nearly three full months before it is time to don those shorts and bathing suits.

First you need to re-establish your goal. When you do, it is important that you’re realistic and do not set yourself for failure.

I’ve been there, I’ve done that. In fact, I recently overdid it and ended up rundown and sick.

In the beginning you are motivated by how you want to look, but keep in mind, your body is unique and has its own physiological pattern, therefore lifting too much weight and sacrificing form can be detrimental. If you’re getting your muscles to fatigue with proper form, keeping yourself hydrated and eating a balanced diet, you will get to your goal in a healthy way.

Keep yourself from getting bored. I have a client that calls the treadmill the “dreadmill” and I admittedly sometimes feel the same way. Switch it up, hop on an elliptical, a bike or better yet head outdoors!

Set mini goals for yourself. Sometimes you’ll have a week where your pants are too big, but the scale stays the same. Celebrate that extra jump in being able to do more reps or more time on the treadmill. Do not look for excuses to miss your workout, plan ahead because there are always going to be social outings. If you know you’re going out after work, get your workout in that morning.
Don’t give up!

A healthy way of life allows you to embrace so many opportunities and opens up a world of possibilities, spiritually, socially, mentally and of course physically. Find your motivation again! There is a reason you made the goal in the first place.
