Dr. Carrie Jones is pretty excited about some new methods of exercising she picked up on from a friend. The Tabata method of high intensity interval training aims for 100 percent all-out effort for up to 30 seconds, and then calls for 10 to 15 seconds of rest. Eight rounds of this workout will take four minutes.

When compared to a 30 to 60 minute workout of walking, running, biking, or elliptical exercise, interval training comes out on top. Interval training burns fat more efficiently, increases the metabolism more, shapes muscles better and improves the cardiovascular system more in less time.

Dr. Jones said, "Immediately I went home, tried a workout, and couldn’t move an hour later. Everything in my body burned, my heart was racing, sweat was pouring off my body and I felt wonderful. I thought I was in decent cardiovascular shape yet sadly after each workout I realized just how wrong I was."
