BCS International Corporation is recalling boxes of Dr. Snack Choco Raisins after quality checks revealed that the product contained peanuts.
Peanuts were not listed on the packaging so the product could cause a potentially fatal reaction in people who suffer from peanut allergies.
Peanut allergy symptoms include skin rashes such as hives, swelling, redness, itching or "pins and needles", runny nose, stomach cramps or diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, tightness of the chest, and wheezing. Sometimes a severe peanut allergy can cause the person to stop breathing due to a swelling of the airways or a severe drop in blood pressure resulting in loss of consciousness. As peanut allergy affects approximately 1.3 percent of the general population and is the most common cause of death from food allergy, it is very important that food products are labeled correctly.
Dr. Snack Choco Raisins were sold in 12 oz. clear, hard plastic containers with a UPC of 80555493026 and a sell by date of 03/05/12.

The problem occurred because there was a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.
