We may be buying some foods thinking they are healthy for us when in reality they are not. Food labels and advertising can be very misleading.

Brown bread, for instance, is not necessarily whole grain. The brown color may be the result of artificial color or caramel. Commercial peanut butter is not the same thing as peanuts put through a food processor. Most commercial peanut butter may contain sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other additives.

Breakfast cereals may contain sugar, salt, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, preservatives and artificial flavorings. "They may be low in calories, but are also low in fiber, healthy fat, good-quality protein, and anything else your body recognizes as food."

Even fruit juices are not the wholesome beverages we may have thought they were. Even 100 percent fruit juice is full of fructose (fruit sugar) and calories. Too much of this can contribute to unwanted weight and possibly diabetes.
