I've been a big coupon clipper since I was little. I remember the weekly Saturday morning routine with my mom. We would make our grocery list and focus on all of the specials. I would write out the list with the prices to make sure we got the right product off of the shelf and to double check what was charged at the cash register. Then we would check our coupon organizer to see what coupons we had for the products we were buying that week.

I remember one time when we went to the grocery store, there was something wrong with the scanning system and the cashiers had to enter all of the prices manually. Since we had all of the prices written down, our order went through smoothly, unlike our fellow shoppers.

At the time, I never really realized what my mom was teaching me. She taught me how to compare product prices and ensure I get good value for my money. She taught me to always use coupons and sometimes she would even let me have the money she saved with the coupons. Once that was $12!

These are wonderful strategies that I still use today. With the way the economy is, you really need to be careful with how you spend your money. I'll stock up on staple items when they are on sale, buy in bulk and grow some of my own herbs and produce. You can see more money-saving ideas to go organic without blowing your budget in my recent article.

This is especially important now that my focus is on buying more organic and natural products. I always bring my coupons with me and I usually use at least one every shopping trip. For me, the best source of coupons for natural and organic products is the Healthy Shopper. This is a Canadian coupon book that is released once a year. The best part is that when you use a coupon, you can get more copies of it online! Some retailers don't like to accept online coupons, but I find if I have an old Healthy Shopper coupon book with me, the store manager can see the online coupon is from a reputable source and they honor the coupon.

The Healthy Shopper coupon book can be found at health stores across the country or you can print coupons at www.thehealthyshopper.ca.

Here's to more healthy shopping and keeping your money in the bank!
