Cancer specialist Dr. Donald Abrams favors the use of soy for its phytoestrogen, for men and women. He believes if people eat soy in puberty, this can lower the risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Dr. Abrams is aware of the controversial nature of the use of soy. Studies continue to present conflicting results. Is the use of soy beneficial? Is it hazardous? He keeps his eye on the research and meanwhile makes choices based on the information at hand. It is a balancing act but one he feels is necessary to perform.

"Dr. Donald I. Abrams, M.D., a cancer specialist, is director of clinical programs at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion. Abrams provides integrative medicine consultations for cancer patients and has completed research in complementary and alternative therapies including mind-body treatments, botanical therapies, medical use of marijuana and traditional Chinese medicine herbal therapies."
