I had ankle fusion surgery on my left ankle in Dec of 2007 after suffering from arthritis in my ankles. I just thought I'd see if there are others on here who have been through the same thing.

Hi Ang,
The most renowned Doctor that does prolotherapy treatments is Milne Ongley, he has a clinic near Ensenada, Mexico. I am trying to figure out a way to get the money together to see him, it is not far, as I live in California. Members of the US Olympic Ski team have had treatment by him.

I had tons of questions before my surgery, I wish I had this resource back then and actually connect with someone who had been through the surgery. So I'm happy to help!! Thanks Ang,
I am registered now - please email me! I have a ton of questions!!! All information will be very helpfull!!!
I look forward to hearing from you and tons others! I want all information possible on this procedure.
I don't know yet what type of fusion I am giong to have at this point. I am going on the 4th of June with a new set of x=rays for him to look at and make sure that the fusion will take. At this appointment we will set up the surgery - so I am looking to have surgery some time between the
8th and the 12th.
I had a really bad break in 1997 - three procedures later and about $100,000.00 including 8 months of PT and crutches for a year my ankle still does not work. I do not have full range of motion and pain with every step along with having to walk like a duck just to help with the pain - and you can forget hills - can't do them. Can't walk for over 30 mins without severe pain.
So, this is just a little bit of my story - I need to be super prepared when I go in on the 4th - SO PLEASE - anyone with any information please contact me - I don't want to be hit by a truck when this all takes place!!
Thank You to all who reply! I look forward to it!

I found a Doctor that is doing a procedure where cartilage is implanted. He is in the San Diego area, and invented the procedure. I have been in contact with his office and was told that he has been doing it for 6-8 years and it is not currently covered by insurance and the cost would begin around 40K. Perhaps he is teaching other Doctors this procedure and it would be approved so that insurance would cover it.
Here is the link to an article on the Doctor and procedure:

If anyone has had this done, Please reply. I am trying to live in severe pain until something better comes along.

It has been recommended that I undergo ankle fusion surgery due to post-traumatic arthritis of my ankle (I was involved in a motorcycle accident) and am looking for some information on the results of that procedure. Does anyone have experience with prolotherapy or other alternative treatments for loss of cartilage?

Hi Saucy Sharon!! I too have been given the option of a ankle fusion or possible ankle replacement, due to post-traumatic arthritis of my left ankle.(class III pilon fracture) I have also asked my orthopedic surgeon about a cartilage replacement. He tells me that there is not any replacement available? At this point I'am walking around in a air cast to function while I way my options. I would certainly also like to know of any alternatives to replace cartilage!!

Hi Lynda,
I know about the pain, it is unbearable. I have posted information about a Doctor in California that is replacing cartilage. They also told me I was too young for replacement surgery,(I am 57)as the joint wears out if you are too active. May I ask how you got the air cast?

Hi there. I found that the best aircast I found was actually on EBAY. I have been traveling a lot and found that it was sooo much more comfortable and no problem with metal at the airports. I had an ankle fusion 12/08 and have been walking for about 4 weeks without an aircast or crutches. I too wanted a replacement but at 35 they were not willing for the same reasons as you.
