Top Ten Pregnancy Food Cravings

I have to admit that I typically eat better when I am pregnant than when I am not. That is not to say that I didn’t have cravings during my pregnancies. Here are some of the foods that I enjoyed the most during that blissful time.

10. Nectarines
I have no idea why but I loved this fruit when pregnant. I had to eat them in privacy though because with each bite the juice would run down my chin. Not so classy.

9. Red Meat
Beefy grilled burgers. Tender steak wrapped in bacon. Golden maple sausages frying up in the pan. (I think the sausages were pork but I still loved them!) Just the smell would make my mouth water.

8. MILK!!
I could not get enough milk. I was tempted to drink straight out of the plastic carton but I never did.

7. Gingersnaps
While I didn’t actually crave these, they became a food staple during the first months of my morning sickness. Peppermint tea, gingersnaps and saltines were the only things that helped me with my morning sickness.

6. Sunflower Seeds (and Cashews)
Prior to knowing that I was pregnant, I came home from the grocery store with TWO jumbo size bags of roasted sunflower seeds. When my husband asked me about them, I answered, “I felt for them and wanted to have enough.” It was crazy thinking on my part but he suspected that I was pregnant right away.

5. Hershey’s Almond Bar (slathered with peanut butter)
My husband is allergic to peanuts so we do not have peanut products in our house. There were a few times that would treat myself to this combo. I savored every bite!

4. Cheetos
I craved these with only my first son. I didn’t eat them all the time, but when I did buy them, I never made it out of the parking lot of the grocery store before opening the bag and popping a few of those cheesy crisps in my mouth for the drive home.

3. Ice Cream
Who doesn’t love ice cream? It was even more convenient to eat a bowl of ice cream when I was pregnant because it sat perfectly on my big belly. (My husband was kind enough to document it with a picture.) But sometimes the cold temperature of the bowl would generate a kick from my baby. As messy as it was, it always made us laugh when the bowl would suddenly fly off my stomach.

2. Cold, Crispy Salads
I have always been a salad eater but I craved that cold crispy lettuce and all the wonderful ingredients that topped it during pregnancy. Chopped salads from California Pizza Kitchen were at the top of my list.

1. WATER, WATER, WATER
As my body grew those boys, I could not feed myself enough icy cold water. Sometimes I would get so thirsty and drink so fast that I could feel the water dripping out the sides of mouth. I would drink the entire glass and gasp for breath once it was empty. It would satisfy me for a while but I would always go back for more.

Other women probably have their own favorites to add to my list. Good luck to you pregnant ladies! Give in to that craving once in a while!
