In the aftermath of the murder of abortion provider Dr. Tiller, donations have been pouring in for a group called Medical Students for Choice. Four days after the murder the organization had received between 2,000 and 3,000 donations ranging from $25 to $500, according to the executive director Lois Backus.

She said that she had never seen such an outpouring of support, and what is amazing is that the group did not seek out donations.

Medical Students for Choice is a group of pro-choice medical students; it was started in 1993, a few months after the murder of Dr. David Gunn, a Florida abortion provider. According to WOMENSENEWS, Dr. Gunn was the first in a string of doctors to be killed. After the recent murder of Dr. Tiller, Medical Students for Choice is more determined than ever to insure that all women have a full range of reproductive choices.

Miranda Balkin, a student at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, and board president for Medical Students for Choice said, "Giving up would be a fate worse than death. My life is one life, but there are thousands of women who need reproductive choice."

On another but similar note, the National Network of Abortion Funds said the George Tiller Memorial Abortion Fund, created hours after the shooting, had raised $15,000 in the first day.
