One Thing You Should Be Sure To Avoid During Pregnancy

One day I received a call that no one wants to get. As I cheerfully picked up my phone and answered, “hello?" I didn’t have to strain to hear the sobbing at the other end. It was my pregnant friend but I could only make out a few words between her cries. I picked up on “appointment,” “short,” and “cut.” That was all I needed. I snapped into damage control. It was suddenly clear that she had made a big mistake during her pregnancy. She got a drastic hairstyle change that she now regretted.

It happened to me each time I became pregnant. I scheduled an appointment to see my hair stylist for a routine hair cut. As I walked in, I bravely clutched a picture ripped sloppily from some magazine. The picture was a sassy short cut that I thought would perfectly complement my growing belly. I had been going to my stylist for many years and she knew what was right with my face frame and what wasn’t. Even more importantly, I was not her first pregnant client. She shot me down before I even sat at her station. “No!" She stated bluntly and directly as I held the picture out to her. “But…” I began to stammer. “No!” She said firmly. “Once you have your baby, then you come and see me. Right now, we are just doing a trim and maybe color, if you need a change.” She was right. The next day, I admired my shiny long locks and how just trimming the ends freshened up my style. How well she knew me. Not just me. She told me after the fact that she makes it a rule to never give a client a drastic hair change when they are pregnant.

Once again, hormones come too much into play when it comes to the pregnant woman’s body. It makes sense really. Although I was an incredibly happy pregnant woman, I did begin to scrutinize all aspects of my appearance. Looking back, that Anne Heche haircut was a very bad idea for someone that cried at Celine Dion songs they heard while shopping at the grocery store. Thank you, Priscilla, for saving me the heartache of a haircut that I would have regretted.
Take my advice. Save all those pictures of haircuts that you think that you like when you are pregnant, if you still like them after your baby arrives, that is the perfect time to try something new.

My hairstylist goes so far as to say no drastic style changes up to 6 months post partum.
