Burning Tongue Syndrome, aka Burning Mouth Syndrome, feels like your entire mouth has been scalded. It impedes speech and makes eating and sleeping difficult. It occurs mostly in post-menopausal women. I went to three doctors (my dentist, who sent me to an oral surgeon ... neither of whom came up with this problem ... then to the head of oral medicine at UCLA who finally diagnosed it) before one of them came up with this diagnosis. Here is what the Mayo Clinic has to say about it:

In my case, they finally prescribed Prilosec, Ativan and Klonopin ... obviously, stress is a key factor. It has helped but flares up when stress increases. It is full blown at the moment!
