I just got a call from one of my son's teachers and just have to share....
This teacher oversees the Chess Club at the Jr. High, and this is the second year that my son has been a member of the club. So the teacher expressed concern that for the last couple of weeks or so my son has arrived at the club meetings "disheveled," with "long, messy hair," and he's quieter than usual. The teacher was so concerned about this change that he checked with one of the other 8th grade teachers and discovered that my son's grade in that particular class has dropped from an A+ to an B+.
So I talked at length with the Chess Club teacher, assured him that I'd talk to my son about his long, messy hair, lack of chatter and downfall in his language arts grade. But what I really wanted to do was to high five someone. This is SO HUGE -- my son is turning into a TYPICAL TEENAGER! The boy who started out as a 28-week 2-pounder, who we nicknamed Bird because of his tiny size, who has had countless obstacles to overcome throughout his young life, who meets Asperger's head-on, who was seemingly destined never to understand concepts like friendship, love, not to mention what it means to be "cool," is now an average 8th grader! Woo hoo! Way to go, Bird!!
