I am one of so many who have literally lost tons of body weight! Up and down and up again over the years.
I think that one of the reasons for my weight see-saws in the past is that I have worked so hard, hit that famous plateau, and finally stopped being so encouraged. And as a result, my resolve has melted away instead of the additional pounds. And over time, I began to find the weight I had lost before. Then someone pointed out to me that lean muscle weighs more than flabby fat [and I choose to believe them]. I got myself a set of scales that measures weight, percentage of body fat, AND percentage of hydration.
Now I can understand that if my clothes fit better (looser and looser, thank you] and that if I feel better, have more energy, and move better, but the drop on the scales seems to be slowing down, I still can see progress by noting that the percentage of body fat is continuing to decline.
And really, isn't that what its all about? -- Getting a healthy, leaner, and stronger body? And being able to stay aware of my body's percentage of hydration also has been an enormous help for me in my workouts and during the rest of my day.
Maybe the mind game of watching the reduction in percentage of body fat is based upon some urban legend. Whatever. The end result is that I can appreciate that the measure of my body weight doesn't mean as much as the measure of how I feel.
