I first noticed it as a freshman in high school during the single most important baskestball game of the year. A starter on JV, my position was already a stressful thing but towards the middle of the game i came to a sudden stop: my heart was beating extremely hard and fast. It felt like my ribs were collapsing upon themselves and crushing everything else inside them, including my beating heart and my breathing lungs. the beats came so fast and so strong that soon, the edges of my vision became blurry and i started to feel numb along my toes and fingertips.
after this occurred a few more random times, i went to see a doctor, who gave me a heart monitor to wear. Of course, with my luck,t he monitor never actually caught one of my palpitations, leaving me even more terrified of what this actually was. finally, taking the matter into my own hands, i limited my caffeine intake and began working out all the time, thinking that by increasing my endurance, i would limit the chances of being out of shape, thus my heart wouldn't be beating to fast to begin with, thus the chances of the palpitations happening would be less. I never figured out what condition i had, but i loved my doctor, because even though we weren't really sure what i had, she was always supportive and made me feel great.
