Whether you are a parent, grandparent or care-giver of a young child...or will be having young children as guests in your home over the holidays, there are some great safety tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics to ensure that your little guests have a safe and happy holiday:
1. Fire resistant artificial tree
2. Avoid "old school" tinsel or icicles that may contain lead
3. Keep decorations with small removable parts out of reach to avoid the child swallowing or inhaling small pieces, and avoid decorations that resemble candy or food that may tempt a young child to eat them
4. Remove all wrapping papers, bags, paper, ribbons and bows from tree and fireplace areas after gifts are opened. These items can pose suffocation and choking hazards to a small child or can cause a fire if near flame
5. Clean up immediately after a holiday party. A toddler could rise early and choke on leftover food or come in contact with alcohol or tobacco
What tips can you add to this list, to help those with children (and those hosting families with children) ensure that their home is happy and safe for the holidays?
