For the last week or so, I've been fighting what I was thought was a REALLY bad head cold. All the signs were there -- sneezing (I literally sneezed about 30 times in one day) congestion, aches, everything.
The problem, as I found out from my doctor today, is that I didn't act on it soon enough. Once the symptoms started to settle in (about Thursday), I waited until Saturday to start taking Sudafed.
In addition to taking the medication too late, I was also apparently taking the wrong dose. Sudafed is powerful -- no doubt and really does a fantastic job of helping clear out the sinuses. The problem was for me that in addition to waiting for the 'rooms' as my doctor likes to call my sinus cavities to fill up for a few days, I was also taking a dose that was way to high for me -- which was 240 mg.
What I probably should've been doing is taking a much lower dose (30 mg) several times a day. Why? This medication is well known for amping people up -- including me -- and I was having trouble sleeping because of it. This was not helping me get the rest I needed to help my body heal.
Now, I'm on a prescription for Levaquin -- an antibiotic that I'll need to take for the next 10 days. Has anyone else run into something similar? Did you wait too long to act on your symptoms?
