I've been reading about the numerous health benefits of various fruits and vegetables, and it seems as though wild blueberries have got them all beat!
Did you know that one serving of wild blueberries provides:
- 6 grams of fiber
- a low glycemic index (GI)
- more absorbable antioxidants than pomegranates
- anti-inflammatory properties
- urinary tract health protection (similar to cranberries)
- and more!
The best thing about this fruit: they are readily found in the freezer, defrost well (unlike strawberries, in my opinion, that are just soggy), and are affordable (unlike some other "exotic" produce). They taste great by themselves, or add a little Stevia or honey; they are perfect in high-fiber pancakes, cereal or oatmeal; taste wonderful in fat-free yogurt, and are delicious in smoothies for a refreshing snack. I feel like I am splurging when I eat wild blueberries, and wanted to share with you all how truly nutritious they are.
